Xiegu G90 Digital Modes Interface

Do you want to operate FT8, FT4, JS8Call, Winlink, or other digital modes with your Xiegu G90?
This spotlight page is designed to help G90 owners identify the correct interface for reliable audio and PTT operation with popular software, including WSJT-X, JTDX, Fldigi, and JS8Call.
G90 Hints and Tips
CAT Setup
First a hint an tip for the G90. The CAT port is 3.3V TTL. Don't be tempted to connect a CAT cable to the radio that is 5V TTL as you may damage the radio. Interfaces we sell for the G90 that offer CAT control are set for 3.3V TTL.
For CAT control the Xiegu G90 emulates the Icom CAT command set. Many modern applications have the G90 as a standard "Rig" profile in the CAT setup. But if you can't find G90 profile on the version of Digimode/CAT software you are using , try setting the Rig type to the Icom IC-7100 or the IC-7000.
The standard CAT Rate on the G90 is 19200 baud.
The next common mistake we see on the G90 is where to connect the 3.5mm CAT control plug from your interface or cable. The radio has COMM port on the rear panel but this is not the CAT control port. It is used for Firmware updates.
The CAT port on the G90 is on the left had side of the front panel as below.
Audio and PTT Setup
The Digital Mode interfaces we sell for the Xiegu G90 connect to the 8-pin Mini-DIN ACC socket on the rear panel. This connector provides the transmit audio, receive audio and PTT keying signals required for digital mode operation.
There are a couple of settings that must be configured on the G90 to ensure audio is routed correctly.
In the System Menu, locate AUX LINE IN to ensure the ACC port line input is selected. This allows transmit audio from the interface to be fed into the radio for digital mode operation. In the same menu, you will find settings to optimise the input and output levels to fine tune your setup when you are confident.
You must also select the correct operating mode. This depends on the firmware version installed in your radio.
-
In Older firmware: Select USB mode.
-
If your radio has the later firmware, you MUST set it to U-D mode otherwise it will not route the audio from the ACC port.
